Jyoti Basu Centre for Social Studies and Research is a research centre based in West Bengal with focus on the ideas of Comrade Jyoti Basu, who was a living legend in India. The Centre is bringing out a series of monographs on Socio-economic Situation in West Bengal in contemporary times, while the reference has been historical. Publication of the series is necessary as there has been a marked silence in research on the lives of the people in West Bengal under current times. There was a change of political regime in 2011 in West Bengal and in 2014 in India. With these changes, there is a persistent lack of published official sources of data depicting the relevant information regarding the lives of the people. State has stopped giving information and political leaders of the ruling party in the State and Centre are found quoting some numbers, information regarding the lives of the people. Comrade Jyoti Basu devoted his entire life to betterment of conditions of lives of the people The Centre has decided to initiate a detailed research and analysis on socio-economic conditions, static and dynamic changes in the lives of the people and trace the changes in the conditions and publish a series of monographs. The series is presentation and analysis of secondary data and information which is available in the public domain and contributors’ calculation on this extensive data mining. This is the 2nd of the series.
Unemployment is a groaning problem in the rural and urban West Bengal. The monograph deals with this problem meticulously.
